Sugar workshop

Ether Museum—a living picture of a bygone era! If you enter the borders of Bulgaria’s only open-air ethnographic museum, you will find yourself in a world different from the modern one – the world of the Bulgarians of the renaissance. Here, the water turns the wheel of a centuries-old mill, and the cobblestones underfoot remind us that the real beauty in life is hidden in experiencing the emotion of touching the craftsmanship of our ancestors.

It represents a reconstruction of the Bulgarian way of life, culture and craftsmanship. It is the first museum of its kind in Bulgaria. It was opened on September 7, 1964. The museum is located 8 km south of the main part of Gabrovo.

In REMO “Eter” there is the only collection of folk water technology in Bulgaria. It contains 10 exhibits and is one of the rich and well-organized technical collections among European open-air museums. This is the reason why the water wheel became one of the emblems of the “Eter” museum. The most important feature of the gathering is that all objects are in action, as they were in the past. A craft bazaar presents 16 examples of Balkan architecture, revealing the original talent of the Renaissance builders.

We enter a sugar workshop from the last century and make together folds of products from the past.
